Types of Tent Stoves
When it comes to staying warm in a canvas tent, a quality stove is a must. Finding the right one for you depends on how you use your tent and in what seasons.

What is the lightest weight tent?

You’ll need a stove that fits the size of your tent and has a spacious firebox. You’ll also need a sturdy and durable stove that can withstand rigorous camp use.

Wood Burning
A wood burning tent stove will add a lot to the comfort of your canvas wall tent camp. They are simple to use and can really throw out some heat. We offer both cylinder style wood burning tent stoves as well as a more lightweight collapsible design. These stoves feature airtight doors and a more controlled rate of burn. They are great for cutting the cold after a long day on the river or in the woods and drying out wet gear.

Our Side Kick is a small camp stove with a cooking surface and 5" chimney hole. It will heat a 10' x 12' wall tent and feed 1-2 people. The Side Kick comes with a 5" stove pipe, spark arrestor and coal grate. The Bullet is similar to the Side Kick but features more height and a larger door for easier loading of logs and has a larger cooking surface. The Bullet is a bit lighter as it was designed to fit in our pack panniers and will heat a 12' x 14' wall tent and feed 8 or more.

Gas
Tent stoves are well-rounded tent accessories that add ambiance and warmth while cooking your meals. These stoves also feature controls like adjustable dampers and vents to control airflow, which impacts fire intensity and heat output.

Unlike wood stoves, gas stoves are usually used for just one thing: cooking. This makes them a more efficient option for cold-weather camping trips, as they save on both fuel and space. They're typically not recommended to be used inside of your tent, however, as carbon monoxide poisoning can occur when the stove is run with the door open or the damper closed.

If you choose to use a gas tent stove in your campsite, we recommend bringing along some stove-friendly accessories, such as a stove thermometer and a stove fan, to maximize the amount of heat your unit emits. This will help to ensure that your tent stays warm and cozy all night long.

Electric
A tent stove is a must-have for those who enjoy camping in cold and snowy conditions. A stove will not only cook your meals but also provide warmth in your tent. A stove with adequate heat output (measured in BTUs) is essential for keeping you and your family warm in subzero temperatures. Stoves with spacious fireboxes to accommodate larger logs burn longer and produce more heat.

Wood burning stoves offer robust heat and cooking utility, but require a compatible tent that includes a stove jack to function safely. Portable versions can easily fit into most backpacks for backcountry hikers looking to add a little luxury to their tent camping experience.

Pellet
Designed to burn only pellets, a tent pellet stove offers increased flexibility for campers. They’re great for hunters, ranchers and anyone spending time in a hunting camp, calving/lambing shed or on cold weather excursions to remote cabins.

These stoves feature an auger that automatically feeds pellets into the stove’s combustion chamber when they need more fuel. A built-in thermostat controls the rate at which the pellets are fed into the fire to maintain a set temperature.

They use renewable energy that’s cheaper than gas or fuel oil and emit significantly less pollution than a wood-burning fireplace. They’re usually freestanding models, but they can also be made as inserts that fit into existing fireplaces.

You’ll need to install the stove and vent correctly, following the manufacturer’s best wall tents instructions for safety and efficiency. You’ll also need a hearth pad that’s made from a nonflammable material to protect the floor around the stove. Regular maintenance and inspections are recommended.
